It’s been four weeks since my accident, despite having 12 broken ribs, 3 fractured vertabrae, a broken wrist, a pulled groin, and bruised pelvis I’m still alive.

Well here’s how the Tigers life has come to an end. It was a damn good bike that took me on tons of adventures over the course of 14,000 miles. Sadly, after being hit by cars twice in three years I don’t think I’ll be back on the road with an adventure bike and will stay in the woods with a dual sport

So for the second time in three years I was hit by a car while on my bike. This time an oncoming car crossed four lanes of traffic and hit me. I don’t remember to much of the impact and aftermath, the first thing I remembered was being face down and paramedic putting a c collar on me. After that I was in the ER at MUSC, the doctor who removed my helmet was impressed that I had a good solid helmet and he straight up said it certainly saved my life and my Klim gloves, Kevlar jeans, and Forma boots helped the rest. So as for injuries…my t7-t9 are fractured in my back, my left wrist is broken along with two ribs. My pelvis is bruised and my mobility is limited.

This morning some pictures of my old 2007 Yamaha XT225 popped up in the memories of my Google Photos. It’s funny looking back to see where I started at in terms of bike and gear. I certainly learned a lot of lessons on that little mountain goat and I’m grateful that I did since it turned me into a much better rider in the long run. To many times we see people jump on bigger adv bikes who quickly realize that having a 400 plus pound bike in limited traction situations is a confidence killing disaster that can sometimes lead to injury. I say it time and time again to those who are wanting to ride adventure bikes, start small and get all the training and practice that you can because it will do wonders for you in the long run.
